Business Analytics

Business Analytics

Analytics is the predictive aspect of BI. It is where we take what we've learned from our analysis and apply it to predicting future trends important to the enterprise. Within analytics we want to build models of the business that we can use for our predictions and fine tune as we increase our knowledge and factor in more data and analysis.

Additionally, we can take advantage of software products that allow us to create rules based systems to turn those predictions in automated reactions. Rules based systems can react to particular events to produce specific reactions within the enterprise. These reactions or triggers can cause alerts to be generated or implementation of planned actions. In a properly functioning system the rules are generally defined and maintained by subject matter experts (SME) who understand the workings of the enterprise. Implementation of the rules might require IT services but the rules themselves should be under the control of the SME.
